RECIPROCITY | Pastor Damian Carruthers | January 25, 2026

In the first Sunday of the Serviceberry series, we named creation as a gift. We explored the beauty of seeing the world not as a possession, but as a sacred offering, something to be received with joy and humility. In this service, we ask: What happens next? In gift economies, like those observed in Indigenous wisdom and the example of Jesus, gifts are never meant to stop with us. They move. They flow. They spark gratitude and from that gratitude comes reciprocity. As Robin Wall Kimmerer reminds us, “Gratitude for receiving gifts must be followed up by reciprocity: to give a gift in return.”

In God’s world, the more we give, the more we have. So today, let’s reflect on how the gifts we’ve received—time, talents, resources, even a smile—might become gifts we pass on.
