Giving Up Bad Theology for Lent
A 7-Week Journey of Unlearning and Renewal
This Lent, Cheney United Methodist Church invites you into a thoughtful and hopeful worship series.
Lent is often a season of giving something up: sweets, social media, habits, alcohol or distractions.
This year, we’re inviting something deeper:
letting go of theological ideas that no longer reflect the love, grace, and life-giving way of Jesus Christ.
Many of us have inherited beliefs about God, the Bible, sin, hell, or salvation that were meant to help, but instead caused fear, shame, or harm.
This series creates space to name those ideas honestly, release what no longer gives life, and rediscover healthier, Jesus-centered theology together.
This is not about having all the answers.
It’s about making room for faith that is curious, compassionate, and grounded in love.
