With this service, we begin our new worship series, The Masks We Wear, and for the next six weeks we’re going to do something a little different—we’re going to the movies! Because sometimes a good story helps us see our own story differently. And sometimes, in places we might not expect, we catch glimpses of the questions Jesus has been asking us all along. And today we begin with Spider-Man.

Peter Parker starts out as a pretty ordinary person. He’s awkward, overlooked, trying to figure out who he is and where he belongs. And then suddenly, everything changes. He discovers that he has been given extraordinary abilities. But the real story isn’t simply about what Peter can do. It’s about what he chooses to do with what he has been given. And maybe that question isn't only for superheroes.
