HANDSOME ABSALOM | Pastor Damian Carruthers | August 11, 2024
The first part of Second Samuel speaks about the success of King David after the death of Saul – for example when he makes Jerusalem the political capital of Israel and brings back the Ark of the Covenant into the city. He also hears the prophecy that from his line the Messiah will come. But despite this divine blessing of David and his house, it comes to his great and horrible failure, when he misuses his power to take Bathsheba, a married woman, for himself, which costs a man’s life. And the chaos did not stop there. David’s son Amnon sexually abuses his own sister Tamar. David’s other son, Absalom, finds out about it and has Amnon assassinated. And then Absalom plots to oust David from power and so launches a rebellion against his father. Come this Sunday to hear how that turns out!
